Mondays, 3:00–5:00 PM · 14 weekly 2-hour sessions
Serious studio time for serious teen artists.
The studio course for teens who want to take their art somewhere real. Studio Practice builds the disciplined habits behind strong work — a sustained sketchbook practice, sharpened fundamentals, and a developing personal direction. It's timed for the years that matter most: AP Studio Art and college portfolio building.
What they'll learn
- A consistent, working sketchbook practice
- Drawing and observational fundamentals at a higher level
- Developing ideas from concept to finished work
- The studio habits behind a strong portfolio
What they'll make: A growing body of work and a sustained sketchbook, with a standout piece featured in the gallery show.
Where it leads: The 11th-grade portfolio and AP year in our high-school arc, leading into Studio Practice II and the 12th-grade Junior Mentor Program.
The semester ends in a real gallery show
At the end of the semester, each student's strongest piece is matted, framed in our shop, and hung in our gallery for a Friday-evening exhibition with refreshments. Families are invited, and the work is shown the way real art is shown. Your child's effort is treated as what it is — art, not a craft to stick on the fridge. It's the part families remember most, and it's something no other art program in the area offers.
