Drawing with a safety net - Led by Chantel Bailey
Saturdays 10:00am–12:00pm | Oct 24, 31, Nov 7 & 14 | $175
Digital drawing gives you something paper never has: a safety net. Layers separate your decisions. Undo lets you experiment. Nothing is precious, so you can take risks. This four-week intensive teaches you to illustrate on your iPad — starting from a photo of something ordinary and ending with a finished piece of your own that's ready for the world beyond the screen.
Each week your drawings become something new. You'll make a finished illustration, then adapt it into a sticker collection, then turn your drawings into a seamless repeating pattern, and finally spend a full session creating a larger piece that's entirely yours. Seasonal prompts (autumn, Halloween, cozy coffee, Suwanee itself) give the class a shared world, but you'll always draw your own subjects.
The four weeks: Week 1, from photograph to finished illustration — Procreate's essential tools, taught through actual drawing. Week 2, designing stickers — what makes artwork readable at two inches. Week 3, pattern play — turning simple motifs into a seamless repeat and your own phone wallpaper. Week 4, your capstone illustration — extended studio time to create a larger finished piece that's entirely yours. We'll offer a broad theme for inspiration, but you'll draw what you're excited to make, with one-on-one instructor help on the skills you want to sharpen. We close with a relaxed share of everyone's work.
You'll take home: a finished digital illustration, a sticker sheet, a seamless pattern with matching phone wallpaper, a larger finished illustration of your own choosing (designed so it could become a screen print down the road), and a mini-portfolio of your four weeks.
Good to know: No digital art experience needed — this is an art class taught through Procreate, not a software seminar. You'll need your own iPad with a compatible Apple Pencil or stylus, with Procreate installed and updated before Week 1 (a one-time $12.99 purchase on the App Store). Please arrive charged. Limited to 12 participants.
