Foundations for finding your artistic practice - Led by Juleah Everglade
Tuesdays 6:30–8:30pm | Oct 6, 13, 20 & 27 | $175
You've wanted to make art for years. Or you used to, and life happened. Or you make art all the time and you've hit a wall. Start Here is four weeks of structured studio time built around the questions that actually start an art practice: How does an image work? What materials feel like mine? How do I learn to really see? And what do I want to say?
This isn't a class where everyone leaves with the same finished painting — on purpose. Each week comes at art-making from a different direction: color and composition, materials and texture, observational drawing, and finally meaning and direction. You'll make studies, experiments, and small works all along the way. Some will be beautiful. Some will fail. Some will surprise you and point somewhere new. That's the work.
The four weeks: Week 1, how a picture holds together — color and composition through fast, low-stakes experiments. Week 2, the messy one — a hands-on investigation of a dozen materials to find what you actually like working with. Week 3, the quiet one — learning to draw what you see instead of what you assume. Week 4, the big question — what keeps showing up in the art you love, and in you?
You'll take home: a collection of studies and experiments from every week, and a one-page Artist Direction Map — a concrete, personal plan for the body of work you might begin next. Not a masterpiece. A direction.
Good to know: This is not just a beginner class. Total beginners are very welcome, and so are experienced artists who feel creatively stuck. No experience, style, or portfolio required. All materials included. Limited to 12 participants.
